Mobility by region by gender, motive and personal characteristics, 1985-2007

This table provides information about the extent to which Dutch people participate in traffic, broken down by region by gender, motive and personal characteristics (e.g. by personal income, age or level of education). The traffic participation of persons is expressed in three quantities: - Average number of trips per person per day. A displacement is a journey or part of a journey made with one motive. For example, the distance traveled from home to work is one journey, regardless of whether one or more means of transport are used. - Average number of kilometers traveled per person per day. - Average travel time per person per day: based on departure and arrival times of journeys. The mobility data for the years 1985-2003 have been obtained from the annual Survey Research on Transport Behavior (OVG) conducted by Statistics Netherlands (CBS). Since 2004, the mobility data has come from the Netherlands Mobility Survey (MON) of the Traffic and Shipping Department (DVS), part of the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management. Data available from: 1985. Status of the figures Figures based on OVG/MON are always final. When will new numbers come out? This table has been discontinued on 20-03-2012 and continued as “Mobility in the Netherlands; personal characteristics and motives, regions”. See also section 3.
