This table shows the total number of kilometers traveled by the Dutch population (excluding residential care residents) on Dutch territory in a year. These passenger kilometers are broken down by mode of transport. This concerns all modes of transport used: if a journey to work was by bicycle to the station, by train and on foot to the office, then all three modes of transport (journeys) are counted separately. The research results of the Research Movements in the Netherlands (OViN) are used as a basis for the calculation of the number of passenger kilometers per year. The total number of passenger kilometers by mode of transport includes both the kilometers of regular trips and those of professional trips (excluding those by lorry). Professional trips are made, for example, by taxi drivers and parcel deliverers. Apart from the OViN study, a model-based estimate of the passenger kilometers on domestic holidays has been made. Adding these domestic holiday kilometers to the passenger kilometers from OViN gives the estimated total number of passenger kilometers by residents of the Netherlands on Dutch territory in a year, as shown in this table. Note: the professional trips and estimated passenger kilometers on domestic holidays are not included in the other tables on passenger mobility on Statline. This is because sufficient information about these movements is missing. Only the kilometers on Dutch territory count. This means that cross-border movements have been cut off at the border and the kilometers traveled abroad have therefore been disregarded. Data available from 2010 to 2017. Status of the figures: The figures in this table are final. Change as of February 19, 2020: None, this table has been discontinued. Change as of August 30, 2016: A small correction (increase) of the passenger kilometers as a car driver for the 2015 reporting year has been implemented: some professional car journeys were previously incorrectly not included.
